Pizza Hut delivered to Mt. Kilimanjaro – earning a Guinness World Record

You may know that Vesture is known for reducing energy consumption in buildings while improving occupant comfort with its revolutionary phase change material, BioPCM®.

Vesture has been helping the food service industry deliver hot food since 1989 with Microcore™ also powered by BioPCM™. In fact, Pizza Hut delivered a Guinness World Record hot pizza to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro at 19,341 feet in May of 2016 using our bio-based materials.

The delivery was planned as part of Pizza Hut’s celebration of setting up business in its 100th country–Tanzania.

From the mile-high jungle trailhead, five professional guides led by Summit Trails owner Consea Dissa carried the pizza to the base camp, at about 16,000 feet elevation. They carried it in an insulated, battery-heated backpack specially designed with BioPCM™ bio-based phase change materials to keep the pie “hot” and horizontal. The bag was designed by Vesture, which makes pizza delivery bags for Pizza Hut. (http://money.cnn.com/2016/05/11/news/companies/pizza-hut-kilimanjaro/)

They originally didn’t plan to hike the pizza all the way to the top, but because of the thin air and high, unpredictable winds a helicopter or drone delivery was next to impossible.
